Got the book as a gift for my husband. He almost bought it at Lowes for $20 and talked himself out of it. Thankfully I found the same book on Amazon for half the price. The book is very informative and the pictures are nice. He loves the book and tries to talk 'grass talk' to me; I have no idea what he's talking about but I'm glad he likes the book!

I have had a lawn service (treatment program) for many years while changing suppliers several times. For me, the reasons for having a lawn service are threefold: 1), preventing bugs from destroying your yard and requiring resoding - especially a problem in Florida, 2), preventing weeds from taking over your yard, 3), making your lawn look as good as it can, recognizing that I don't have a million dollar estate. If you want every blade of grass to be perfect, NASA could probably do it, but at a cost of a million dollars a treatment. Now that we're retired, I was thinking that I would have more time to take care of my lawn by myself, saving some of the $600 a year that I pay my lawn service. But, what do you do and when do you do it? So, I ordered this book. I've not yet decided to take on my lawn by myself, but this book provides lots of information about lawn care. The many pictures describe types of grass, weeds, and lawn care problems. It may not be possible to take care of your lawn more cheaply than the professionals or have access to the same chemicals, but at least you can have a better understanding of what they're doing and what to ask.

I had no idea how to keep my lawn alive. Now I know.
